Welcome to our newest inductees in the Class of 2019

In ’69 he was named the All-Vol Conference and All-Mid South quarterback, and was the starting quarterback for the West team in the TSSAA All-Star game. On the hardwood he started at guard on the ’69 squad that was the last boys team from Savannah to reach the state tournament. On the diamond he was a 3-year letterman who pitched and played 3rd base, earning All-District honors. He earned a football scholarship to Chattanooga and subsequently transferred to UT Martin on a baseball scholarship. Later elected as county executive, he was instrumental in bringing the NAIA Football National Championship game to Savannah.

As a senior he led the team to an 8-1 start, a 2nd-place finish in the Conference East Division, and a trip to the national playoffs. In his collegiate career he posted a career batting average of .331 with 34 home runs and 36 stolen bases. He later moved to Savannah where he coached high school football and baseball, and was extremely active in the youth sports scene. Fortune was inducted into the UT Martin Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.

Locklear was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Memphis.

OUR PROCESS

Each year, members of the public are encouraged to nominate athletes, coaches, and athletic contributors from the greater Hardin County community whose accomplishments place them at the pinnacle of achievement among their peers. In the spring, our board of directors carefully examines each nomination and creates a ballot of worthy candidates. Along with the board members, each living inductee casts their vote to elect three new members to the newest class. In July, those newly elected members are inducted at our annual banquet.
